Games are getting bigger and bigger by the second, and it’s troublesome when you’re trying to play the latest one on your PS5, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, Xbox One, or any other platform if they’re downloading slowly.

And so, if your GTA Online update isn’t downloading as quickly as you’d like, you’re going to want to know why and how to fix it. Good news, good people, we can help you with that…

Why is the GTA Online update downloading slowly?

There are lots of reasons why your game might be downloading slowly.

Sometimes it’s just that your internet is playing up, but there’s not a huge amount you can do about that if it’s not on your end. If so, perhaps try doing an internet speed test right here.

How to speed up GTA Online update slow download speed

If you’re trying to download the new GTA Online update, the first thing you should do is pause any other downloads that may be occurring on both your console and your network.

In a time where most games receive frequent patches and updates, pausing other downloads should ensure that your GTA Online download is prioritised over the latest Call of Duty: Warzone update, for example.

Alongside stopping other downloads, we’d recommend closing any other applications or games that use the internet. Sure, it’s tempting to go and play another game or watch Netflix on your console or PC while waiting for the download, but this will likely make the download time even longer. Go and read a book.

Finally, and this is a recommendation that extends beyond just downloading games, you should probably try to move a bit closer to your router. Ff your gaming set-up is currently in a totally different room to your Wi-Fi Access Point, consider moving it into the room with the best internet signal.

To get the best connection possible, you should connect directly to your router with an ethernet cable. This will give you a more stable internet connection, hopefully speeding up your download speeds and getting you back into Los Santos to enjoy the new content.
