Since Oculus Quest 2 supports Bluetooth headphones (not officially, though), is it possible to connect AirPods to Oculus Quest 2 headsets? Is it possible to combine the market-leading VR headset, with one of the most popular wireless headphones?

The Quest 2 obviously comes with its own in-built audio offering. But maybe you want to shut out the rest of the world. Maybe your family would rather not hear the sounds from whatever you are playing or watching.

We'll let you know whether support for the AirPods is available. And if so, we'll explain how to pair them up.

Does Oculus Quest 2 Support Airpods?

On the official Quest 2 support pages, Meta states that:

Quest 2 supports both 3.5 mm headphones, as well as USB-C headphones

They don't however, make any mention of wireless headphones. And in fact, they don't say anything about Bluetooth compatibility whatsoever.

But all is not lost. While there isn't "official" support for AirPods, the Quest 2 does have one additional trick up its sleeve, that makes using your AirPods with your VR headset a possibility. We'll look at that next.

While the Quest 2 doesn't automatically offer support for your AirPods, it is still possible to pair the two devices, thanks to the magic of Experimental Features. And this is how you do it:

  • Switch on your Quest 2.
  • Go to the Settings menu.
  • Select Experimental Features.
  • Next, switch on your AirPods, and put them into pairing mode.
  • Go back to your Quest 2, and look for the option marked Bluetooth Pairing. Press the Pair button.
  • Select Pair new device and connect them up to the AirPods.

Following this process will pair your AirPods with your Oculus Quest 2. In this same way, you can connect your Galaxy Buds to QUest 2 as well. But before you go off and do this, there are a couple of caveats to be aware of.

Remember, this is listed as an experimental feature. And pairing any Bluetooth headphones is not something that is 'officially' supported by the Quest 2, which means that there are questions about how well the two devices will work together.

There are reports that while the two devices pair, the experience isn't totally seamless. Issues such as lag, and audio being out of sync are the most common issues. And there isn't much of a solution for this. Although one bright spot is that this seems to be less of an issue if you are using apps such as Netflix, compared to playing games.

Whether it works well or not, at least now you have the tools to give it a try and decide for yourself whether it is any good.
