Wondering if using Warzone VPN can lead to a ban? Let's find out!
Using a VPN in Warzone allows players to get better ping/latency and to secure easier lobbies. But, can you get banned on Warzone for using a VPN, and land yourself on the Warzone Permanent Ban list? Especially when Call of Duty has the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat system in place.
In this article, we'll look at if you will get a ban in Warzone for using a VPN. Let's get right into it!
Can You Get Banned On Warzone For Using A VPN?
Activision doesn't explicitly state or confirm that you can get banned for using a VPN in Warzone or other Call of Duty games. However, the Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policy states the following:
Any attempt to hide, disguise, or obfuscate your identity or the identity of your hardware devices may result in a permanent suspension.
Since a VPN basically hides your real IP address as well as your location, it may be considered cheating as per the above policy. Moreover, the use of unauthorized software to gain an unfair advantage is also prohibited by Activision. So using VPN to get to easier lobbies could also be a violation of the above-mentioned policy.
This thread on Reddit can confirm that the use of a VPN can get you banned in COD. In contrast, multiple sources on the Internet do claim that you will not get banned for using VPN. Since there is no official statement from Activision about the use of VPNs in Call of Duty, the jury is out on this issue.
In case you are not aware, a permanent ban applies across titles, including the past, present, or future titles in the Call of Duty franchise. Therefore, make sure to think hard about whatever choice you make.
Is Using A VPN Cheating In Warzone?
As mentioned above, the usage of a VPN technically violates two of the Call of Duty Security and Enforcement Policies. However, whether the Call of Duty Anti-Cheat system considers it cheating is still not clear.
Of course, many players have reported being permanently or temporarily banned from Warzone supposedly due to the use of VPN. Activision's reply to their appeal was quite vague. It reads, "your account has been permanently banned for using unauthorized software and manipulation of game data." It is possible that the "unauthorized software" in question is a VPN client.
It is worth noting that there are also Warzone players who use VPNs but have not been banned from the game. Ahh, it's confusing! We recommend you steer clear of VPNs. It is better to be safe than sorry.
