Nvidia certainly made the most of their time at CES, with a raft of announcements. While the RTX 3090 Ti was undoubtedly the 'star' of the show, there was plenty to digest. Among the products unveiled at CES were two new laptop GPUs: the 3070 Ti and the 3080 Ti. Today, we'll take a look at some of the RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU power specs, so that you can get a sense of exactly how interested you should be.

How Many Teraflops is the RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU?

The RTX 3070 laptops are intended to replace the current range of RTX 2070 Super laptop GPUs. And Nvidia claims that these will be up to 1.7x faster than the previous generation. But what does that look like in raw numbers?

A teraflop is the ability to process one billion 'flops' (floating point operations) every second. Without getting too bogged down in the details, the more teraflops, the more calculations can be performed simultaneously. And therefore, the quicker the processor should be. Of course, there are other factors at play, but that's the general principle.

Unfortunately, Nvidia has yet to furnish us with the exact specifications. But for reference, the RTX 3070 laptop GPU comes with around 12 teraflops, while the RTX 3080 laptop GPU has around 16 teraflops. As soon as Nvidia furnish us with more details, we'll let you know.

How Many Gigabytes is the RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU?

Happily, they have been a little more forthcoming when it comes to memory. Once again, as a general rule of thumb, the higher the number, the more memory. And the more memory, the more data the GPU can hold. This translates to things such as higher resolutions, and higher texture quality.

In this respect, the RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU doesn't differ a great deal from its predecessor. Both come with 8GB of GDDR6. But Nvidia does claim that this new GPU will be able to deliver 100 fps at 1440p.

Anything Else Worth Knowing?

Based on the specs that Nvidia have provided so far, the biggest difference that the new RTS 3070 Ti laptop GPU offers is the number of CUDA cores - 5888, compared to 5120 in the RTX 3070. This is a significant jump, and in tandem with other new features such as Max-Q, battery boost, and a CPU optimizer, may well deliver a significant boost to performance.

As ever though, we'll need to wait until these laptops are out in the real world, before we really know how well they perform. They are due to go on sale on February 1st, starting from $1499.
